Powder Coating Wheels

Postby Catford on Tue Feb 28, 2012 6:54 pm

I have a set of BBS wheels to be powder coated. :D

Who do members recommend for a good blast, powder coat and clear coat finish combo in Adelaide?

Looking at a Charcoal Metallic colour.

Prefer all in one service.

Last two sets I have had powder coated were rubbish.

Think that's where Odjen got his BBS done in Black Metallic with clear coat, awesome job.

Edwardstown powdercoaters did my 57D's in a satin black. Decent finish and pretty cheap I thought. Mind you never had any done before but I was happy with these.

They arrange blasting too - at a nearby place.

Had some Enkeis done for the Mirage by them, the powder coat bubbled off after the first track day and even after the second time they were done the white discolored badly again. Might be good for street rims but not sure about track rims.

I have used AAA powder coaters in Lonsdale on multiple occasions for white wheels. That stuff stuck pretty well! Only issue I have had was a prep related, soda wasn't completely washed off!

Morestel Powder Coaters:
http://www.yellowpages.com.au/sa/north- ... sting.html
14 Kinkaid Ave, North Plympton SA 5037, Australia

Looked a millions dollars afterward. I've haven't tracked to know if they will bubble off. I've accidently hit my wheels with sockets when putting wheels on. Didn't leave a mark.

Matt, remember I borrowed your wheels so I could get mine coated :) Thanks again for that!

+1 for edwardstown powdercoaters. They do a great job and arrange everything from sandblasting to tyre removal and then refitting of tyres to gutter rash removal.

Josh's BBS wheels were done there. They came out well.

Ended up using AAA Powdercoaters, 3 day turn around.

Blast + Zinc Coat + Charchoal Metallic Coat = Paid $160 for all 4 wheels.

I am told this is a good deal. Finish is perfect and BBS owner is very happy.

Ive used Edwards town powdercoaters and was happy with their work but 160 for all 4 wheels sounds damn good, assuming they can do any colour!

just be careful to remove powder coat from wheel hub as it will melt (over 200c) with track use and can cause the wheel to become a little loose. it happened to me by the end of a track day, so just check your wheel nut are done up tight each session :)
