This change to the championship has held up the Supp Regs at CAMS for a few weeks, but I have been promised that I will have them back sometime today. With this change we need to amend a few bits in the Supp Regs and hopefully have them up on the web-site by the end of the week.

June 22nd & 23rd

Entries for the 8th running of the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally are open and flowing, though standard entries will be closing soon. This year’s competition has been designed like wagon wheels around the boutique towns of Willunga, McLaren Vale, Macclesfield and Mt Barker bringing as much excitement and thrills back to the areas as possible in gratitude for allowing the event to run in the region. It is expected that 1000’s will descend upon the district to experience the undeniable excitement of the event as there will be a evolution insofar as the stages will be run multiple times allowing for a far better spectator experience for those supporters of the event.

Indicative of the respect that the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally has, long time partners will again be supporting the event in 2013. For the second year running, the event will be based at Serafino Winery in McLaren Vale, where the teams will be starting from and liaising to throughout the day for services, and finally returning at the end of each day for the official event dinners held in the evening.

Shannon’s Insurance have come back to support the event, proving yet again their dedication to grass roots motorsport and their clientele being those that take part in events such as these.

IMS are back again not only to provide the obligatory medical service that the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally require, but have also come onboard at the event management level, bringing another facet of expertise that can only be a benefit to the event as a whole.

Competitors come from all walks of life and from every state in Australia, with all having a common interest in cars, motoring and motropsort. The event not only allows these competitors to have a spirited drive through the beautiful Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula, but it also allows them the opportunity each evening to reflect on their experiences of the day in the company of other competitors and event officials.

The Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally is a rally for all car enthusiasts with competition ranging from the Australian Championship component at the pointy end, down to the Tour section for those just wanting to take their road cars out for a spirited drive. In between there is a competition called Thoroughbred Challenge where participants are timed based on an average speed. For every second the cars are too fast or slow they are penalized points for each second. The Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally will also be round 1 of the South Australian Tarmac Rally Championship with round 2 to be held at Targa Adelaide. It is also round 3 and the only Tarmac Rally component of the South Australian Rally Championship.

Entry forms can be found at www.ahtr.com.au an you can follow us on face book.

Old Willunga Hillclimb

Saturday June 22nd

See an opportunity and create the inaugural Old Willunga Hill…climb.

The team at Ultimate Motorsport Events has determined that there will be considerable space at the end of the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally field on the Saturday morning of June 22nd and have decided to run a packet of cars up Old Willunga Hill 3 times as a standalone Hillclimb Event. It was agreed that a minimum of 20 competitors would be required to make this happen to cover permit fees and track licence charges, and through the enthusiastic interest that has already been shown since running the idea up the social network flag pole, those numbers seem easily achievable with a complete field of approximately 60 competitors being the ultimate goal.

This is an exciting opportunity for the UME team and the motorsport competitor base as there has been a hankering to add to the Mount Alma Hillclimb event and create a multi-round, multi-locational Hillclimb series. This will be the precursor.

The cost will be $150.00, and will include 1 (one) dinner ticket for the Variety SA Bash dinner, that will be held that evening at Serafino Winery. This will allow the Hillclimb competitors to mingle with the rest of the competitors and officials of the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally. Cars would need to be road registered or permitted to compete as transports will be required.

An entry form will be available shortly at www.ahtr.com.au

Entries for the 8th running of the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally are still open and flowing, though standard entries will be closing this evening.

Thanks again to our partners; Serafino Winery in McLaren Vale, Shannon’s Insurance and IMS Ambulance Service. Also thanks to the people of Willunga and the City of Onkaparinga.

Therefore cars will need to be road worthy and permitted or registered.

This hillclimb should be a fantastic event for those who want a taste for a tarmac sprint stage and you can do it in your road car! I believe AHTR are running the hillclimb after the rally cars have made their passes. Using a road book hillclimb crew travel from service park (Serafino Winery) to Old Willunga Hill special stage. In 30 second intervals the crews climb the stage and then road book back down to the service park. There is transport on main roads so keep this in mind if you are thinking of running slicks and hello aero! AHTR have promised 3 runs up Old Willunga Hill for $150 which is worth it to have a go at a closed road in a safe environment! Apparently there are only 5 entries left! The rally cars should dry out the lines and leave some nice rubber for the hillclimb racers to take advantage of.

For those who have asked what the stage looks like we found some footage from AHTR 2011 were we were exchanging stage times with the Sims GTR and Selley Evo 9RS for the podium outright. We were first on the road for Day 2 and won this stage outright; however it consequently ended our championship podium chances prematurely. The launch tramped off the start line and blew out the rear differential bushes. The inertia of the speeding drive line was enough to get us to the top; however the differential dropped as we pulled up at time control! Rally over. The team fixed improvised bushes and we returned to continue charging for outright stage wins.

2011 ASP Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally - SS7 Old Willunga Hill - Catford/Lehmann Evo 9

The Old Willunga Hill special stage is approximately 2,710 metres in length. We were recorded as completing it in 2010 with a time of 1:23.3 in 98 octane/2.5inch trim so use that as a guide.
