Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally wrote:Well it has been a rather disappointing week for the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally. Both the Victor Harbor and Yankalilla Councils have rejected our road closure requests, therefore the Friday of the event has been lost. There does not seem to be a definitive reason why either council refused the request, besides the vocal minority ruling the country again. We are now currently looking at being a tw...o day event and hope that the other 3 council areas get over the line. The Mt Barker Council has been very positive with their approach and we are based in the Onkaparinga Council area and hope that last year's accident in Targa Adelaide does not change their positive approach to the event. We will keep you informed on our progress, but it just seems to get harder each year.
AHTR wrote:With under 60 days to the event, we need officials to register for both Saturday & Sunday. If you or you know know someone that can help, please ask them to register.

It was refreshing to go to a council meeting last night where we were asked intelligent questions and where councillors stood up and spoke about the need for events like ours that promote their City to the people all around Australia, and how it brings in economic benefit to the local businesses and community.
It was nice that you recognised that the event was run by a volunteer group that had many of its members and helpers living in your community. We were taken back by the positive discussion about the tragic accidents that occasionally happen in all types of sports, and how well one of your councillors thought our event had handled this in one of the past events.
It was great to hear a female councillor speak about how the younger people needed somewhere in their council to do motorsport and how there is currently not enough places for them to be able to do motorsport within the City of Onkaparinga Council.
It really shows the huge gulf between attitude of individual councils and their different priorities when it comes to Business, Tourism, Promotion, Jobs, and Economic Stimulation within their councils.
The event will now make sure it spends its money on items needed to make the event happen in the councils that support our event.

This years Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally will start from Serafino Winery on the Saturday morning with the Prologue being run up Old Willunga Hill.
This way there is no long transports from up north back to McLaren Vale.
It also bring back more economic benifits to the local council where we are using their roads.
AHTR wrote:Mount Barker Council give the tick of approval
Tonight Mount Barker Council voted unanimously in support to close roads for this years event.
At this point we now have at minimum of 116km competitive event with Alexandrina council still to come later on in the month. The event will now run regardless, but it would be nice to have the extra 40+km and show case the event further in the South of Adelaide.
Supplementary Regulations and entry will be released shortly.
Reminder officials are still needed to support the event and it is urged to register ASAP for allocations to be sent out in a timely manner.
