'Godzilla' was certainly on song this weekend on the roads of the picturesque Adelaide Hills and iconic Fleurieu Peninsula with local pairing of Matthew and Dennis Sims in their Nissan GT-R35 taking out the 2011 ASP Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally by a commanding 1m 41secs over fellow local team of Matt Selley and Claire Ryan in their Subaru WRX.

Fastest over all 3 Legs of the event despite a 30s penalty, the pairing made the best of their four wheel drive system in the wet and often very slippery tarmac roads to take the win.

Conditions were the major talking point on Saturday with a large number of crashes and non-finishers with the most serious being a crash involving local pairing of Milan Filo and Jason Rowley who crashed very heavily on the Crows Nest Special Stage on Saturday afternoon with both driver and co-driver air-lifted to hospital in a critical condition.

"A left-hand-drive 911 Porsche travelling north on Crows Nest Rd has come over a crest in the road and lost control," a police spokesman told The Advertiser

"The car has gone sideways and hit two trees on the right-hand side the passenger side."

Rally organisers were praised for their quick actions to attend the scene and provide urgent medical assistance. Both competitors remain in hospital in a serious condition.

Matthew Selley showed he was back to his top form after missing most of last season with accident damage sustained at Rally SA and with co-driver Claire Ryan showed they will be a serious challenge for the SA Rally Championship taking 2nd overall as well as First Place in the SA Rally Championship round held during the running of Saturdays legs.

Last year's Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally winner Andrew Burnard with WA co-driver Tim Margach were 3rd overall in the Superloc Racing Mitsubishi Evo 9 with ARC competitor in the 2011 Rallyschool Australian Junior Challenge James Rodda and co-driver Marcus Piristi 4th Overall and 2nd in the SARC.

17-year old Daniel Day who is part of the Southern District Cars Club Junior Development Program also impressed showing maturity above his years to finish in 5th place overall and 4th in the SARC round. The high school student, a local of the Adelaide Hills who has been competing since the age of 12 drove alongside experienced co-driver Steve Glenney to put in a balanced and polished drive and showed once again he could be a star of the future.

For thoroughbred competitors it was a chance to to take their normally high performance road cars and compete on the closed road sections normally reserved for the race-bred machines in a controlled and safe environment while still competing in a points system. Although limited to 130km/h drivers still faced a fierce competition to hit their target times with the combination of John, Bec and Cintra Amos taking the Honours in their Mitsubishi Evo X ahead of Richard Davis and William Best in the big HSV W427.
